Fig C54, the re-designed motor driven striking gear, c. 1945.
This striking unit is controlled by the C53 (hereunder) in order to strike the correct number of blows at each hour.
The bell dates from 1850 and weights 80 pounds.
Details of the hammer are not known but it looks pretty much as being made in the stone age!

Fig. C53 Control unit. In a Master controlled installation, the time element of the C53 continues to operate even though the AC. mains may be cut off and the strike and chime rendered silent. Automatic correction is thus incorporated so that when the AC. supply is restored, the correct number of blows will be sounded on the next occasion, without manual adjustement.
The re-designed striking gear no longer had it’s own count-wheel, it was completely controlled by this C53, designed by Mr E.Chapman, shortly after WWII
